I needed a power plug which can measure the power usage of my tumble dryer. The last one died because I think it was not capable enough to measure the power usage of the dryer.
After some searching I found the Aqara Power Plug H2 EU. It is promoted that it can monitor high-power appliances up to 16A, so I ordered one.
It arrives in a nice small box. After unpacking and connection it to the power, I wanted to add it to my home assistant setup through zigbee. Put my home assistant in pairing mode and waited for the power plug to show it self….but nothing happend. I didn’t want to use Matter, so I tried again, still nothing.
To test the power plug itself I finally installed the Aqara app on my phone and tada there it was. The power plug was alife. In the app the configuration wizard was shown and there you have the option to switch from thread/matter to zigbee… After the wizard was completed I was also able to pair it with my home assistant setup.
So the device can do thread/matter OR zigbee. The default protocol from the factory is thread/matter so if you want to use zigbee you have to change this in the aqara app.
